The Northwest Coast Native Indian Tribes believe that all nature is endowed with spirits. The Shaman is a ritual healer who draws upon helper spirits to drive away illness using different objects like this mask that represents one of the most common spiritual helpers used by the shaman in ritual ceremony. Some believe that even a photograph of the mask still holds the spirit power of the original object.
Mercer Clark has been influenced by the Miami Art Deco Scene and now lives in Palm Springs, California. Many of his works reflect the Art Deco Color palette and are very bright and cheerful.
