The Art Deco era spans the time period between the two World Wars. During that time all genres of art were influenced by the frivolity of the 1920s, the austerity of the 1930s and drive of the 1940s. Music, furniture design, art and architecture all reflected the moods of the era. Art Deco continues to influence today’s artists. Many local artists and artisans draw from Miami Beach’s tropical Art Deco for their works.
Miami Design Preservation League is pleased to present a few of those artists this summer at our 2nd Annual Art Deco Inspired Art Show. The 2014 Art Deco Inspired art show will showcase several local artists who have been inspired by our local historic Art Deco. Visitors will see how a historic style has influenced contemporary artists. The show will run from July 11 to August 29 in the Art Deco Welcome Center.

The Miami Design Preservation League is pleased to present "Art Deco Inspired", an exhibit of artists' works that have been inspired by Art Deco and Miami Beach. The exhibit is free and open to the public from August 1st through August 31st. On display are the works of four photographers and two sculptural artists.

The Frost Museum recently acquired Gary Mercer's 5x7 foot photography Titled " Lone Seagull" This photograph will be maintained in the Frost Museum's permanent collection in perpetuity. The Frost Museum is a Smithsonian affiliated museum located on the FIU campus in Miami,Florida. Gary has done photography for the museum special projects since 2009 and was honored to have one of his artworks selected for the permanent collection.
